Panzer Tracts
Hilary Louis Doyle, Lukas Friedli and Thomas L. Jentz
2014
ISBN:

The book is divided into the following sections:

1. Introduction
2. Predecessor of the Sturmpanzer
3. Sturminfanteriegeschütz 33
4. Sturmpanzer Production History
5. Sturmpanzer Production Numbers
6. Sturmpanzer Units and Organization
7. Sturmpanzer Shipments
8. Sturmpanzer Deployment
9. Munition Pz.IV

The first three sections are brief. The production history section has some new interesting information but most interesting was a new set of photos of Series 1 Sturmpanzers being assembled at Heeres-Kraftfahrzeug-Werkstatt Wein. These are clear and sharp photos including some very nice interior shots. This section also includes line drawings covering all versions of the Sturmpanzer. The production numbers section has a chart of units produced which included some new information but I have not studied it yet. A little text with explanations for missing monthly production numbers is also included. The unit history section covers all unit briefly as well as the organization but the section is mostly photos. Most of the photos in the book are known but they are a very good selection of photos. The shipments section consisted of basically a Shipments chart which also seem to have some new information, though again not studied. The deployment section is basically a POW’s statement on his Sturmpanzer unit which was Stu.Pz.Abt.216. The last section is also an interesting section on the Pz.Kpfw.IV munitionspanzer with a few photos. The best thing about the book for me was one photo that changed an opinion I had about a certain configuration. It is a photo of Sturmpanzer with a very late chassis. It had been my understanding that all chassis had been delivered by November. However this chassis with three return roller per side and extended hull side drilled out for towing indicates that this is not the case. It’s a great find.

Overall the book has enough new information and photos that make it worth getting. If interested you can get one directly from the Panzer Tracts folks for $34.95.
